What Are Flavanol Antioxidants?

Flavanol antioxidants are part of a group of chemicals known as polyphenol antioxidants. Most often referred to as flavanols, the substance is found in its highest concentration in cocoa and to a lesser extent in processed chocolate products. According to a study by the American College of Cardiology and quoted in Sciencedaily.com, flavanols increase nitric oxide in blood of smokers and seems to reverse smoking related damage to blood vessels.
